Search for a group

Any group that has been shared publicly can be found by anyone who has access to ArcGIS Online, whether this access is through ArcGIS Explorer Online, ArcGIS for iOS, ArcGIS for Android, or ArcGIS Desktop. Explorer Online provides an integrated approach to searching for maps or groups, as a single keyword search can be used to search for both. Once you've found the group you can view its details, apply to join it, and open its maps.

If your account is associated with an organization in ArcGIS Online, you will be able to find any groups that have been shared with all members of the organization. However, you may not be able to find public groups on ArcGIS Online, depending on how your administrator has configured your account.

To search for a group

  1. In the home screen, type the keyword you wish to search with into the Find Maps & Groups box at the top right of the screen.
  2. Press ENTER to start the search, or click the Find button Find button at the left of the box.

A Search tab containing the results of the search is added to the home screen and selected. If you were previously viewing the Groups tab, then group results are displayed first, otherwise map results will be displayed by default. You can switch between the search result types by clicking either Maps, Services, or Groups at the top of the search results panel.

You can then either view the details for a particular group by clicking on the Details link, or you can open a group by clicking on the Open link which adds it to the Groups list within the Groups panel on the left of the screen.

As well as searching based on a keyword, you can also search based on other criteria, for example, a maps unique identifier or owner.
