Run a presentation

If you are viewing a map, you can click the Start Presentation button Start Presentation button on the Presentation toolbar to play the presentation. When the presentation starts, the map is displayed in full-screen mode, starting with the first slide. Press SPACE to advance through the slides, or press the PAGE UP key to go to the previous slide.

You can also advance forward and backward in the presentation using the Presentation Navigator. The Presentation Navigator will remain hidden until you move your mouse over the screen. You can use the Previous and Next buttons on the Presentation Navigator to go to the next or previous slide in the presentation. You can also use the Go To Slide button to show a gallery of thumbnails of the slides in the presentation; clicking a thumbnail will go directly to the selected slide.

If you are reviewing the slides in presentation editing mode, you can alternatively click the Start Presentation drop-down arrow and then click Start presentation from current slide to show the presentation in full-screen mode starting from the currently selected slide (even if it is hidden), instead of the first slide in the presentation.

If the presentation has been configured to display the Time Navigator in the Presentation Options dialog box, you will also see the Time Navigator when viewing slides which contain one or more visible time-enabled layers.

The Time Navigator when running a presentation

If you open a map which has slides, it may be configured to open in a special presentation mode, showing an simple option to play the presentation. You may also find that a hyperlink to a map opens in this special mode. The same actions for running the presentation and navigating around apply to this special presentation mode.

Navigating around within a slide

The map is always live during a presentation; at any time you can pan, zoom, and click on features in the map, then press SPACE to continue on with the presentation.

NoteNote:

If there are not yet any slides in the presentation, starting the presentation mode will display the current extent of the map in full-screen mode as a presentation.

If the Time Navigator is shown, you can also change the visible time range, or animate the map over time, while running the presentation.

The end of a presentation

When you have reached the end of a presentation, this will be indicated by a message displayed in the center of the screen. The map will remain in full-screen mode, and you can continue to view specific slides or navigate around in the map until you exit the presentation mode by pressing the ESC key. You can also use the End Presentation button on the Presentation Navigator. You can also quit the presentation at any point by using either of these options.

In the case where the auto-advance option has been set to automatically advance through the slides, the Presentation Navigator will present different options: to pause, continue, or end the presentation.
