Create and use bookmarks

A bookmark is an item you can save to a map, providing a shortcut to a position in the map. Open the Bookmarks drop-down list to see a list of bookmarks in the current map. When you click a bookmark in the list, Explorer Online repositions the map at the location and scale it was when the bookmark was created. You can also use the Bookmarks drop-down list to create, rename, reorder, and delete bookmarks. Bookmarks can also be created directly from Find Places.

Go to a bookmark

To navigate the map to a bookmark, open the Bookmarks drop-down panel by clicking the Bookmarks button on the right of the Mapping toolbar, and click on the item you want to navigate to. The Bookmarks drop-down list will then close.

Create a new bookmark from the Bookmarks drop-down list

To bookmark the current location and scale of the map, click on the Bookmarks button on the right of the Mapping toolbar to open the Bookmarks drop-down list, and click the '+' button at the lower left corner of the panel. You will be prompted to supply a name for the bookmark in another dialog box, and after clicking OK, the new bookmark will be added to the Bookmarks drop-down list.

Create a bookmark from Find Places

You can create a new bookmark from places that you find using the Find Places box. First, enter the search string in the Find Places box and press ENTER to open the Results drop-down list. Click the Bookmark link next to the item to add a bookmark to the map; the new bookmark will have the same name as the result item.

Alternatively, you can click on the '+' button shown at the top right of the pin representing the place in the map to show the Add To menu and click Bookmarks.

Rename, reorder, or delete a bookmark

To rename, reorder, or delete bookmarks, click on the Bookmarks button to the right of the Mapping toolbar to open the Bookmarks drop-down list, and click the Organize button at the lower right corner of the panel. Once the Bookmarks drop-down list is in organize mode you can:

• Type in the box to rename a bookmark.
• Click on the handle on the right of a bookmark and drag it up or down within the list to change the order in which it appears.
• Click the Remove button to the left of a bookmark to delete it from the map.

When you are finished, click the Done button at the bottom right of the Bookmarks drop-down list to switch back to normal bookmarks mode.
