Quick tour of sharing your maps
One of the principal benefits of working with maps is that they serve as a valuable means of communicating domain-specific findings and spatial relationships to others. You can share the maps you create using ArcGIS Explorer Online with others in several ways.
Sharing your maps with others
To see how the currently open map is shared, click the Share button on the toolbar to open the Share dialog box. If you want everyone to be able to use your map, check the Everyone (public) check box. Alternatively, check specific groups from the The members of these groups list.
You can also share maps without first opening them. Find the map you want to share in the home screen and click the Share link shown in the map summary to open the Share dialog box.
Telling others about your map
- You can specify a link to your map that you can include in an e-mail, a document, or an instant message. Copy the link from the box and paste it wherever you require. You can choose to share a link to either the map itself, or directly to the maps presentation if it has one.
- If you have access to and use social network applications, you can let others know about the maps you're working with, whether they're yours or those of others. Just click the button to post to your profile on Facebook or tweet with Twitter. Again, you can share a link to either the map itself, or directly to a presentation.
- If you own the map, you can make your map available to all users of ArcGIS Online by designating that everyone has access to the map. Alternatively, you can specify that only members of a group have access to the map, or that the map is only visible to yourself. To choose how you want to share your map, check or uncheck the check boxes in the Share this map section.
- You can embed a publicly shared map made with Explorer Online into a web page. Embedding the map into a web page will show the map directly within the web page, showing the map in the same was as when the map is opened in the ArcGIS.com map viewer. The map is not opened using Explorer Online in this case, and the users viewing the web page do not need Silverlight installed on their computer.
Sharing services
You can also share services that you have added to ArcGIS Online with other users. Find the service you want to share in the home screen and click the Share link to open the Share dialog box. You can decide to share a service publicly, or with a group or groups of which you are a member. You cannot directly share a link to a service, but users will be able to find the shared service when they use the Add Content panel to add data to the map, or when they search ArcGIS Online.
