Create a new feature template
New feature templates can be added to the layer template for editable layers stored in the map. You define new feature templates by basing them on existing features in the layer. For example, you might want to create several area features that represent the boundaries of a fire, each with the same appearance. Rather than creating each feature using an existing template and adjusting the appearance of each feature to match, you can create the first feature, set its appearance, then create a new template from that feature. You can then create additional features that look just like it.
You can also remove and rename the existing feature templates, by using the Add Features panel.
For editable layers that are based on feature services, the layer template is defined by the service, and you cannot add new feature templates to it, remove templates from it, or rename the existing templates.
If you do not need to create new templates, you can simply change the appearance of single features stored in the map, and configure the appearance of features in a layer based on a feature service.

- At the bottom of the Symbol panel, click the Create Feature Template button. The New Template dialog box appears.
- In the Name box, type a name for the new template. Choose the default tool for the template from the Default Tool list. The tool will be selected when the template is used to create a new feature.
