Enabling the linear referencing capability
Creating the map document
Before publishing a linear referencing service, you must use ArcMap to create a map document that contains at least one LRS Network and event layer.
In general, you should follow the steps in Preparing resources for publishing as services.
Publishing a linear referencing-capable map service
After you have created and saved your map document with symbology using ArcMap, you can create the map service with linear referencing capability by following the steps in Publishing a GIS resource to the server in Manager.
When publishing the resource, keep the following in mind:
- When specifying the Resource, you must browse to the map document (MXD) that you created that contains the LRS Network and event layers.
- When specifying capabilities, make sure the Linear Referencing check box is checked.
Using the service
A map service with linear referencing capability can be used to build web-based and connected mobile linear referencing applications. In addition, the Roadway Characteristics Editor consumes your data from this type of map service. For more details regarding this, follow steps in Authoring a web map in the Roadway Characteristics Editor web application guide.
