Adding a new data model

With a new product library, or as your organization supports more data models, you might need to add names of new data models. If your data model is not in the product library, you need to add it. When you create a new data model, you need to provide the following information:

• Name—The name of the data model you are adding
• Alias—An abbreviated name for the data model
• Description—A short description of the data model (If you have used an acronym for the name or alias, you can spell out the meaning of the acronym for the description.)

For each new model, you can also specify the major, minor, edition, and revision numbers and indicate which tables are going to be versioned and archived.

Steps:

1. Start ArcMap.
2. If necessary, open the Product Library window by clicking Customize > Production > Product Library on the main menu.

   A tree view of the product library appears.
3. Right-click the Product Library icon on the window and click Properties.

   The Product Library Properties dialog box appears.

4. Click the cell next to Set Tool Options.
5. Click the drop-down arrow that appears and click the ellipsis (...) next to Data Models.

   The Data Models dialog box appears.
6. Click New.

   The New Data Model Version dialog box appears.
7. Click New.

   The New Data Model dialog box appears.
8. Type the name of the data model in the Name text box.
   Tip:

   This is also the name that appears next to the data model version.

9. If necessary, type an alias for the data model in the Alias text box.
10. If necessary, type a description of the data model in the Description text box.
    Tip:

    This can be a brief description of the data model or the meaning of an acronym that has been used as the name or alias.

11. Click OK.

    The New Data Model Version dialog box appears.

12. Click OK.

    The Data Models dialog box appears with all the feature datasets and tables included in the model.

13. Check the Version check box next to each table and feature dataset you want versioned in an ArcSDE geodatabase.
14. Check the Archive check box next to each table and feature dataset you want to archive.
15. Click OK.

Tip:

Once a data model is created, you can change its alias or description on the Data Models or New Data Model Version dialog box.
