Modifying a primary or secondary mapping for the rounding rule interval

A primary mapping is used for comparison in the interval's precision. It is defined by ranges of values and a mapping for each range. The range of values for the interval specifies a minimum and maximum value. Brackets [ ] are used if you want to include the minimum or maximum in the range; parentheses ( ) exclude the value. The mapping defines what the rounded value will be increased to. You can also preserve leading and trailing zeros by checking the appropriate check boxes, which is for labeling/display purposes.

A secondary mapping is used when values are in mixed units. It is defined by ranges of values, a conversion rule, and a mapping. The range of values for the interval specifies a minimum and maximum value. Brackets [ ] are used if you want to include the minimum or maximum in the range; parentheses ( ) exclude the value. The mapping defines what the rounded value will be increased to once it is converted.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcCatalog.
  2. Add the Rounding Rule Definition tool to a toolbar by completing the following steps:
    1. On the main menu, click Customize > Customize Mode.

      The Customize dialog box appears.

    2. Click the Commands tab.
    3. In the Categories list, choose Nautical.
    4. In the Commands list, click and drag the Rounding Rule Definition button Rounding Rule Definition to a toolbar.
    5. Click Close.
  3. Click the Rounding Rule Definition button Rounding Rule Definition.

The Rounding Rule Definition dialog box appears.

    Rounding Rule Definition window
  4. Click the Rounding Rules drop-down arrow and choose an existing rounding rule.
  5. Click the record in the Rounding Rule Intervals area for the interval containing the mapping you want to change.
  6. Click the record for the primary or secondary mapping.
  7. Click the first column for the value you want to modify and change the parameter for inclusive or exclusive:
    • [ ]—A bracket includes the value.
    • ( )—A parenthesis excludes the value.
  8. Change the minimum value you want to modify by clicking in the appropriate cell.
  9. Change the maximum value you want to modify by clicking in the appropriate cell.
  10. Click the fourth column for the value you want to modify and change the parameter for inclusive or exclusive:
    • [ ]—A bracket includes the value.
    • ( )—A parenthesis excludes the value.
  11. Change the precision value by clicking in the appropriate cell.
  12. Repeat steps 6–11 for all values you want to modify.
  13. Check the appropriate check boxes.
  14. Click OK.
    NoteNote:

A rounding rule interval can have multiple primary and secondary mappings.
