Implementing an instance

Once you have created and assigned areas of interest (AOIs) to your instance, you are ready to implement that instance. This creates an empty production database (personal ArcSDE) using the information provided when setting up the nautical product library. The personal ArcSDE is built using the stored XML workspace that represents the schema of your product. Implementing the instance also versions and archives any necessary tables in the database.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, open the Product Library window by clicking Customize > Production > Product Library on the main menu.

A tree view of the product library appears.

    Product library tree
  3. Right-click the product and click Implement Instance(s).
    TipTip:

If you have one instance, you can right-click that instance and click Implement Instance.

    Implement Instance

Implementing at the product level with more than one instance creates all your production databases.

    A process dialog box appears.

A few seconds after the implementation process begins, a Browse Folder dialog box appears.

  4. Click the ellipsis button (...) and choose a temporary location to save the database.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Click OK on the Browse Folder dialog box for the implementation process to continue.
    NoteNote:

This step takes approximately ten to fifteen minutes to complete per ENC or AML production database, and up to thirty minutes for chart databases.

A message box appears when the process is complete.

  7. Click OK.
