Attributes used to calculate metrics in Defense Mapping

With several of the editing tools included with Esri Defense Mapping, you can populate metrics such as the length, width, area, and height attributes for features. To populate these metrics, there are certain attributes that must be present in the feature class. For instance, to populate the height of a feature, the Calculate Height tool requires a height attribute, and the Calc Metrics tool requires length and width attributes. Previously, the names of these attributes were specific to data models included with Defense Mapping, such as Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program (MGCP) and Vector Map Level 1 (VMap 1) and VMap 2.

However, the names of these attributes can differ based on the data model you are using. For instance, in your current data model, the area attribute could be ARA_ instead of ARA. With the Attributes tab on the Defense Mapping Properties dialog box, you can add the names of other fields you want to use for the area, height, length, and width attributes for your data.

By default, the following are specified as attributes:

You can add other attribute names to the Area, Height, Length, and Width lists on the Attributes tab. Once added, the attributes are then populated with the area, height, length, and width values for features, as appropriate. For example, if you add the ARA_ attribute to the Area list on the Attributes tab, it can be populated using the Geometry Reporter or the Buildings tool.

Below is a list of the different tools that calculate attribute values and the types of attributes they populate. When you add fields to the lists on the Attributes tab, those attributes can be used in addition to the default values in each list.
