Updating the modification date for Geonames features
When Geonames features are moved or other edits are made, the feature is updated when the edits are saved, but the modification date is not. This is because the MODIFY_DATE field is in the Geonames table and not the feature class and is updated separately. The Geonames Update Date tool updates the MODIFY_DATE for the selected Geonames features to the current date.
- Start ArcMap.
- Add the Geonames Update Date tool to a toolbar by doing the following:
- On the main menu, click Customize > Customize Mode.
The Customize dialog box appears.
- Click the Commands tab.
- In the Categories list, click Defense Mapping.
- Click and drag the Geonames Update Date button from the Commands list to a toolbar.
- Click Close.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Customize Mode.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
-
Click the Production Start Editing button on the Production Editing toolbar.
Note:
The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.
Tip:If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button on the Manage Features window.
- Select one or more Geonames features for which you want to update the MODIFY_DATE field.
- Click the Geonames Update Date button .
The MODIFY_DATE field is updated in the Geonames table for the selected Geonames features.
