Selecting bad geometry

Importing data from other sources may introduce geometry that is not supported such as polygons with only two vertices. The Select Bad Geometry tool queries features and selects only those with bad geometry within a selected area.

The following is a list of inspections that the Select Bad Geometry tool will perform on the selected geometry:

Geometry type

Conditions checked

Points

Point geometry is not null.

Lines

  • Polyline has at least two points.
  • Polyline geometry is below database precision.
  • Polyline is simple.

Polygons

  • Polygon geometry is below database precision.
  • Polygon is simple.
  • Polygon outer ring delineation is negative area.
  • Polygon endpoints are equal.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, load data in the map.
