An incorrect workspace type is specified for this operation.

Solution

Some operations, such as creating a version or checking out data from a database, can only be executed on an ArcSDE geodatabase workspace. Try changing the parameter requiring a workspace or dataset to reference an ArcSDE geodatabase connection instead of a file or personal geodatabase.
