Interactive Supervised Classification tool
The Interactive Supervised Classification tool accelerates the maximum likelihood classification process. Internally, it calls the Maximum Likelihood Classification tool with default parameters. The classified image will be added to ArcMap as a temporary classification layer. The classification is based on the current displayed extent of the input image layer and the cell size of its pyramid. When you pan (or zoom in and out) in the display area, the temporary classification layer is then dynamically updated to fit the new display extent. This process happens in the background so that the classification layer appears continuous.
During the classification, this tool makes use of all the bands from the selected image layer.
Usage Scenarios
The Interactive Supervised Classification tool is created for the following usage scenarios:
- With this tool, you do not need to create a signature file in a supervised classification. To classify an image, you only need to create a few training samples and click this tool.
- The speed of the classification is accelerated. Disregarding the size of the input image, the classification result will usually be returned quickly to the user as long as the image has pyramids built.
- It enables you to preview the classification result without having to run the Maximum Likelihood Classification tool. For example, when you are sketching the training samples, you can quickly preview the result of classification based on the current training samples.
