Working with the Boundary layer

LegacyLegacy:

ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model—the mosaic dataset—which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension.

The Boundary layer displays the boundary, or extent, of the image service definition. The boundary is created during the build process by the merging of all raster footprints that are not service overviews into a single polygon.

The default symbology for the boundary polygon is a thick pink outline. When you right-click the Boundary layer, the standard ArcGIS polygon layer context menu is displayed. A boundary can be edited using the standard ArcMap editing tools.

When using the Advanced steps to create an image service definition, after you add the raster data, you need to build the image service definition with the Generate service boundary option checked. This will ensure that a boundary shapefile is created for your image service definition. The boundary shapefile is stored in the .ISDef folder. After building your image service definition, the Boundary layer appears in the table of contents.

Steps:
  1. Right-click the Boundary layer in the table of contents and click Open Attribute Table.

The Attributes of Boundary dialog box is displayed.

  2. Click the arrow Selection arrow to select one row in the attributes table.
  3. Close the Attributes of Boundary dialog box.
  4. Open the Editor toolbar.
  5. Click Editor > Start Editing.
  6. Click the Target drop-down arrow and click Boundary.
  7. Click the Task drop-down arrow and choose the task you want to perform on the boundary layer, such as Modify Feature.
  8. Use the Sketch tools or Edit tool to modify the Boundary layer.
  9. When complete, click Editor > Stop Editing.
  10. Click Yes to save the edits.
