Shrinking footprint polygons

LegacyLegacy:

ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model—the mosaic dataset—which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension.

Recomputing footprints by shrinking is used to reduce the size of a raster dataset's footprint so that the edges are not used. In certain cases, using the very edge of a raster dataset can cause artifacts. Shrink Footprint enables the footprint to be reduced by a specified size. The edges of the footprint are moved toward the center of the footprint by the specified amount. The unit of size should be entered in the units of the data view's projection.

Steps:
  1. Open an existing image service definition or use one that is already open in ArcMap.
  2. Right-click the Footprint layer in the table of contents and click Recompute Footprint > By Shrinking.

The Shrink Layer dialog box is displayed.

  3. Type the required change in width for the footprint in the Width text box.

Enter a positive value if you want to reduce the footprint dimension. Enter a negative value if you want to expand the footprint dimension.

The unit of measurement is the same as that of the service spatial reference system.

  4. Type the required change in height for the footprint in the Height text box.

The unit of measurement is the same as that of the service spatial reference system.

  5. Click OK.

The footprint size reduces or expands based on the values you typed.
