Adding an ArcSDE raster dataset to an image service definition using the Add Data Wizard

LegacyLegacy:

ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model—the mosaic dataset—which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension.

Use the ArcSDE Raster Datasets raster type to add raster data stored in an ArcSDE geodatabase. You can add this data by making the ArcSDE database connection either first in ArcCatalog or via the Select Files dialog box.

You can add only one or a few raster datasets at a time. You can select more than one by pressing CTRL or SHIFT when making the selection. Neither adding ArcSDE raster catalogs nor pointing to the ArcSDE database and adding all raster datasets within is supported.

Steps:
  1. Open an image service definition in ArcMap.
  2. Click the Image Service drop-down menu on the Image Service Definition Editor toolbar and click Add Data.

The Add Data Wizard is displayed.

  3. Click Next.
  4. Click the Select Raster Type button.
  5. Scroll down and double-click ArcSDE Raster Datasets.
  6. Click the Input browse button.
  7. Click the Select files browse button.
  8. Click the Look in drop-down arrow and click Database Connections.
  9. Either connect to the ArcSDE database or double-click the preexisting connection to view its contents.

To learn about connecting to an ArcSDE geodatabase, see the information on connecting to database servers.

  10. Click the raster dataset to add to the image service.

Press CTRL or SHIFT to select more than one.

  11. Click Add.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Optionally, check Use this spatial reference for all input data.
    1. If checked, click the browse button to choose a spatial reference for the input data.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Optionally, click Yes if you want to add more data to your image service definition, and click Next.
  16. Optionally, uncheck Generate overviews if you do not want to optimize the image service definition.
  17. Optionally, uncheck Compile the service for publishing if you do not want to compile the image service definition.
  18. Click Next.
  19. Click Finish.
