Tracking data saving and exporting options
Tracking Analyst allows you to save and export your data in several different ways:
- Save a tracking layer as a layer file.
- Save an entire map document containing one or more tracking layers.
- Export a map image from a map document containing one or more tracking layers.
- Export tracking data from a tracking layer.
- Export tracking data as an animation using the Tracking Analyst Animation tool.
- Export tracking events as XML or text using the Tracking Analyst Copy To Clipboard tool.
Saving a tracking layer as a layer file
A tracking layer can be saved as a layer file in the same way as a standard feature layer. Saving a tracking layer as a layer file (.lyr) can be done in ArcMap or ArcGlobe. A layer file stores only the information for one specific tracking layer. This is useful because it allows you to add the layer to other map documents while retaining the layer's symbology properties and other settings. If you want to save other layers in your map document or save multiple tracking layers from your document, you might want to save the entire map document.
Saving an entire map document containing tracking layers
If you save a map document (.mxd or .3dd) that contains tracking layers, the tracking layers contained in it will be completely preserved. The next time you open the map document, all the tracking layers will be present with their complete temporal properties and settings intact.
Exporting a map image containing tracking layers
A map that contains tracking layers can be exported to an image in the same way as a map containing standard layers. When exporting a map as an image, be sure to choose an image file format and resolution that meet your needs.
Exporting tracking data from tracking layers
Data can be exported from tracking layers in the same way as standard feature layers. If you choose to immediately add exported data to your map as a new layer, the new layer will also be a tracking layer.
Exporting tracking data as an animation using the Animation tool
The Tracking Analyst Animation Tool allows you to create animations of tracking data being played back in ArcMap. This allows you to distribute animations of tracking data to others without requiring that they have Tracking Analyst installed. For example, you can create a video file from your tracking data and make it available on a Web site or attach it to an e-mail. Then your audience can play the video using a standard media player (such as the Windows Media Player) and see the results without needing to learn anything about Tracking Analyst.
Exporting tracking data as XML or text using the Copy To Clipboard tool
You can copy attributes from events in a tracking layer to a clipboard so you can paste them to another location, such as a document or another application. The three text formats supported are ESRI XML, GML XML, and ordinary text. This tool provides an easy way to populate reports with data from your tracking layers.
