Sample applications using Spatial Analyst
Many applications are possible with the Spatial Analyst tools. Several sample applications are described below:
- Derive information from data—Create useful information, such as watershed delineation, surface estimation, and classification. For example, Spatial Analyst can be used to derive distance from roads or calculate population density.
- Identify spatial relationships—Produce weighted overlays and combine rasters for various analyses using the comprehensive set of tools for cell-based modeling.
- Find suitable locations—By combining layers, find areas that are the most suitable for particular objectives, such as siting a new building or determining high-risk areas for flooding or landslides.
- Calculate cost of travel—Calculate travel cost surfaces to identify optimum corridors, factoring in economic, environmental, and other objectives.
Reading the Performing Analysis and Modeling spatial problems sections will give you some background information to help you apply Spatial Analyst to your own work.
