Stacking labels with a special character

Steps:
  1. Click the Label Manager button Label Manager on the Labeling toolbar.
  2. Check the check box next to the layer you want to label.
  3. Choose a label class under the layer.
  4. Click the Label Field drop-down arrow and click the field you want to use as the first part of the label expression.
  5. Click Expression.
  6. Click the next field with which you want to label features from the Label Fields list.
  7. Click Append.
  8. When you use the Append button to add fields to the label expression, the fields are automatically concatenated with the ampersand (&) symbol, and a space is inserted in the label between the fields.

  9. Select the space and type a character, such as a forward slash (/), between the fields. This character will be used to stack the labels.
  10. Click Verify to see a preview of the label.
  11. Click OK to close all dialog boxes.
  12. See the Add and remove stacking characters topic for steps on how to add the forward slash character to the list of stacking characters.
TipTip:
You can also open the Label Expression dialog box by clicking the Expression button on the Labels tab of the Layer Properties dialog box for the layer that you want to label.
TipTip:
Any character can be used as a stacking character, but it is best to use a character that does not appear in your field names.
TipTip:
You can filter the list of attribute fields by field type by clicking the Show Type button. This is useful when a feature class has many attributes and you want to select only fields of a certain type for the label expression.
TipTip:
You can see a sample of the values of an attribute by clicking the Show Values button. This allows you to ensure that you are choosing the right fields.
