Installing ArcSDE for Oracle on Windows

Installing ArcSDE creates a directory (referred to as SDEHOME) that contains library files, administration command utilities, ArcSDE Administration Command Reference documentation, ArcGIS Server help, and database-specific scripts. It also sets the SDEHOME variable in your system path.

TipTip:
If you install ArcSDE on a different machine than the Oracle instance, you must copy certain files from SDEHOME to the Oracle server. Make sure the files you copy are designed to run on the operating system of the Oracle server. See Installing Oracle and ArcSDE on separate servers for more information.

Follow these steps to install ArcSDE for Oracle on Windows.

Steps:
  1. Log in as a user with administrative privileges to the machine on which ArcSDE will be installed.
  2. Close all applications on your computer.
  3. Access the ArcSDE installation files.
    • If you have a DVD, place it in the appropriate drive.
    • If you have an ISO image, use an ISO extractor to access the files.
  4. Double-click the ESRI.exe to start it.
  5. Do one of the following to start the installation:
    • To install the 32-bit version of ArcSDE for Oracle 10g, choose the ArcSDE for Oracle 10g (32-bit) option on the ArcSDE installation dialog box.
    • To install the 64-bit version of ArcSDE for Oracle 10g, choose the ArcSDE for Oracle 10g (64-bit) option on the ArcSDE installation dialog box.
    • To install the 32-bit version of ArcSDE for Oracle 11g, choose the ArcSDE for Oracle 11g (32-bit) option on the ArcSDE installation dialog box.
    • To install the 64-bit version of ArcSDE for Oracle 11g, choose the ArcSDE for Oracle 11g (64-bit) option on the ArcSDE installation dialog box.
  6. During the installation, you will be asked to read the license agreement and accept it or exit if you do not agree with the terms. If you exit, ArcSDE is not installed.
  7. Also during the installation, you can set the location on disk to which the ArcSDE files will be installed or accept the default location.
  8. Follow the rest of the directions in the setup wizard to complete the installation.

If you are creating a new geodatabase and have already created an Oracle database and sde user, you can proceed with the Post Installation wizard. If not, exit the wizard.
