Installing ArcGIS Desktop
When you install ArcGIS Desktop, you install a set of applications and product documentation, including
- ArcMap
- ArcCatalog
- ArcToolbox
- ArcGIS Administrator
- ArcGIS Desktop Help
For detailed information on installing ArcGIS Desktop for the first time, upgrading to the new version of ArcGIS Desktop, using the ArcGIS Administrator, or system requirements, see the main installation guide. To access the main installation guide, do the following:
- If you installed ArcGIS Desktop from a DVD, insert the DVD and use Windows Explorer to navigate to the top level of the DVD, then double-click Install.htm. The installation guide opens in your default Web browser.
- If you installed ArcGIS Desktop from a download, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the top level of the folder to which you downloaded ArcGIS Desktop, then double-click Install.htm. The installation guide opens in your default Web browser.
Several extensions, such as 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst, are available with ArcGIS. To install an extension, you must select it in the installation wizard either the first time you install or by running the installation wizard again later. Most extensions require a license and require you to enable them before use. For a list of extensions, see About ArcGIS Desktop extensions.
