A quick tour of MPS-Atlas

The MPS Atlas toolbar

The MPS Atlas toolbar has tools that enable map book and atlas creation.

The MPS Atlas toolbar

This toolbar allows you to interact with the major components of map book and atlas creation, including:

MPS Atlas window

The MPS Atlas window lists previously created map series and map sheets and provides access to wizards that help you set up your map series. You can right-click anywhere in the MPS Atlas window to access the Build Map Series or Build Simple Map Series wizard, or to create a map sheet based on the current extent.

You can right-click anywhere in the MPS Atlas window to access the Build Map Series wizard, select a layout, define scale and extent options, and set other properties associated with the map sheets. In addition to these properties, the comprehensive wizard provides options for setting a buffer, calculating the rotation angle, determining the spatial reference and calculating the page size. Once a map series has been created, you can save, export, print, or access individual map sheet properties by selecting and right-clicking them. By selecting the map series and right-clicking, you can access the map series properties.

The MPS Atlas window also provides access to the MPS-Atlas batch functionality when you select and right-click on any of the map sheets.

The Build Map Series wizard

The Build Map Series wizard provides all the properties available to set up a complex map series. The wizard provides options for naming a map series, selecting areas of interest (AOIs), setting storage options, defining map sheet properties, and setting data frame manager properties such as rotation angle, coordinate system, buffer distance, scale and extent, and a feature layer definition query. After finishing the wizard, the map series and map sheets are created and listed in the MPS Atlas window.

The Build Simple Map Series wizard

The Build Simple Map Series wizard provides the basic properties needed to set up a map series. These properties include the name, storage options, page layout, and the data frame manager properties for scale and extent. Once the map sheet areas of interest have been selected and the data frame manager properties have been set, the map sheets are created and listed in the MPS Atlas window.

HinweisHinweis:

When using the Build Simple Map Series, the default options for rotation, buffer, coordinate system, and dynamic definition query are all set to 'No Change'.

The Create a map sheet option

The Create Map Sheet option allows you to pan and zoom to any area and create a map sheet at that extent using an existing map sheet or map document (.mxd) as a layout template.
