Setting extraction queries for product classes

If you are using the Nautical Information System (NIS), every product must have extraction queries set for replication to know what features to extract from the NIS and maintain in your product. If your product library has not been preconfigured, or if you are not using the product library XML workspace provided with the Nautical Solution, you will need to create a product library that contains a model, solution, and product class. Once you build a product library, you can set extraction queries for the products you manage in the enterprise production environment. If you are using the preconfigured nautical product library, queries already exist at the product class level with default settings for scale, and you will have to override these queries at the product level. Specifics need to be set with the appropriate scale value.

Extraction queries allow you to determine which features are going to be included on your products. The queries that are created at the product class level of your product library control what is extracted for the products, instances, and areas of interest within the product class. They can be defined for all or specific feature classes based on the specifications for your product class.

The most common method for configuring the extraction queries is to choose a table or feature class in the Tables drop-down list and create a WHERE clause that can be applied to records in the table or feature attributes in the feature class.

There are additional built-in filters that you can apply to a product class. You can also choose which series, product, or instance types are going to have features extracted, as described below:

  1. Start ArcMap.

    If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.

  2. If necessary, open the Product Library window by clicking Customize > Production > Product Library on the main menu.

  3. Navigate to the product class for which you want to define extraction queries.
  4. Right-click the product class and click Extraction Settings.

  5. Right-click in the Selections table and click Add Record.

    For the Nautical Solution, add a total of two records.

  6. If necessary, click the Series Type cell, click the drop-down arrow that appears, then choose the series type from which you want to extract features.

    For the Nautical Solution, use the default value ALL for both records.

    A new row appears in the table.

  7. If necessary, click the Product Type cell, click the drop-down arrow that appears, then choose the series type from which you want to extract features.

    For the Nautical Solution, use the default value ALL for both records.

  8. If necessary, click the Instance Type cell, click the drop-down arrow that appears, then choose the instance type from which you want to extract features.

    For the Nautical Solution, use the default value ALL for both records.

  9. If necessary, click the AOI Type cell, click the drop-down arrow that appears, then choose the area of interest type from which you want to extract features.

    For the Nautical Solution, use the default value ALL for both records.

  10. Click the Tables cell, click the drop-down arrow that appears, then choose a table or feature class from which you want to extract features or records.

    For the Nautical Solution, leave the first record as ALL. Change the second record to PLTS_FREL.

  11. Click the SQL Statement browse button.

  12. Type or paste the WHERE clause you want to use with the table in the cell.

    If you are using the Nautical Solution, the Please select a table to get field names from dialog box appears for the first record with the tables value of ALL, and you can skip this step.

  13. Choose the PLTS_COLLECTIONS table from the default list and click Select.
    TippTipp:

    The default location is C:\Documents and Settings\<user login>\Application Data\ESRI\Production10.0\DMVTemplates.

  14. Click Load.
  15. Choose the appropriate query from the sample data if it was saved in a directory, or load your own queries.
  16. Click Open.

  17. Check the Edit query text check box to modify your query.

  18. Click Verify to verify your query.
  19. Click OK to close the Query Builder dialog box.
  20. Repeat the steps starting at step 5 for each extraction query you want to create.

    For the PLTS_FREL table, repeat steps 11, 14–16, and 19. When you are finished creating new records for each extraction query, the extractions should look like the one below (with the appropriate scale values):

  21. Click OK when you are finished.
