Changing the .mxd file associated with a nautical product
You can store multiple map documents with a product in the product library, but you can only check out the MXD associated with the product and have it automatically resourced. If you need to check out another map document from the product library that is not currently associated with the product and want it to automatically resource when you open it, you will have to associate it with the product before checking it out.
To do this, you will first have to create a copy as a link of the MXD that is currently associated with the product so that it won't be deleted when you remove the association to the product. You can then associate another MXD with the product with which you are working to have it automatically resourced. Once you are finished working with the second MXD that was associated with the product, you can reassociate the original MXD that you copied as a link.
- Start ArcMap.Tipp:
If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.
-
If necessary, open the Product Library window by clicking Customize > Production > Product Library on the main menu.
A tree view of the product library appears.
- Navigate to the product.
-
Right-click the product and click Manage Files.
The file manager appears.
- Right-click the product map document currently associated with the product and click Copy As Link.
- When the copy process completes, right-click and click Paste.
A copy of the MXD appears in the file manager.
Vorsicht:If you do not complete this step, you will lose your product map document. Creating a copy as a link only needs to be done once, and only with the original MXD associated with the product. Other supplementary map documents do not need to be copied as links.
- Close the file manager.
- Right-click the product and click Properties.
The Product Properties dialog box appears.
- Click the plus sign (+) next to MxD to expand the properties.
- Click the cell next to File and click the ellipsis (…) that appears.
The Browse For File dialog box appears.
- Click the Storage type drop-down arrow and choose Database.
- Click the ellipsis (…) next to the Location field.
The Open dialog box appears.
- Click the drop-down arrow and browse to the product location.
A list of all the documents in the product appears.
- Choose the map document you want to open during checkout and click Open.
The Browse For File dialog box appears.
- Click OK to close the Browse For File dialog box.
- Click OK.
You have now associated another map document with the product. When you check out the product from product library using the Open command, the document will open sourced correctly.
Tipp:When you are finished editing or using this document, check in, then repeat the steps starting at number 8 to reset the original MXD as the product map document. You can change MXD files back and forth by following these steps.
