Creating a dynamic scale bar

Komplexität: Einsteiger Erforderliche Daten: Mit Software installiert Datenpfad: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Bin\TemplateData

The Graphic Table Element has the capabilities for creating dynamic surround elements such as a scale bar. The dynamic scale bar updates based on the data frame's visual extent whether the scale bar is used in an MPS-Atlas map series or within a single map document.

Adding cartographic data

Before you can create the scale bar, you need to add the data to the map. In this walkthrough, you are using the U.S. States (Generalized) feature class, which is in a template database that is included with the ArcGIS install.

Schritte:
  1. Start ArcMap.
    TippTipp:

If the ArcMap - Getting Started dialog box appears, you can open a new or existing map document. You can also check the Do not show this dialog box in the future check box and click Open.

  2. Click the Add Data button Daten hinzufügen on the Standard toolbar.

The Add Data dialog box appears.

  3. Browse to C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Bin\TemplateData.
    HinweisHinweis:

The data used for this example is located at C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Bin\TemplateData.gdb by default for a standard installation.

  4. Add the States feature class to the data frame.

Creating the scale bar for the map series

In this part of the workflow, you are going to create a map series and set the California map sheet as the current map sheet.

Your area of interest should look like this:
