The image service definition group layer
The image service definition group layer organizes the layers of the image service definition in the ArcMap table of contents. By default, the name of the image service definition group layer is the same as the image service definition name. When you create a new image service definition using the New Image Service Wizard, the group layer is added to the table of contents and contains the Footprint, Boundary, and Preview layers. When you create a new image service definition using the New Service Definition dialog box, the group layer is added to the table of contents and contains only the Footprint layer. After building the image service definition, the Boundary and Preview layers are added.

If seamlines are generated for an image service definition, the Seamline layer is added to the group. An image service definition group layer is similar to the other layers in the table of contents in ArcMap. Below, the group layer is displayed as Amberg.ISDef.
By right-clicking either the group layer or any of the sublayers, a number of options are available on the context menus.
The following options are available when you right-click the image service definition group layer:
- Open Service Table—Opens the service table.
- Zoom to Layer—Zooms to the full extent of the image service definition layer.
- Remove—Removes the selected image service definition group layer from the table of contents; however, the data is not removed from disk.
- Properties—Opens the Image Service Properties dialog box. This dialog box can also be opened by clicking the Service Properties button on the Image Service Definition Editor toolbar.
