Identifying unused data sources
Some of the schematic data sources referenced in a schematic dataset may become unused during the schematic dataset's life. To quickly identify these unused data sources, you can enable the Identify unused data sources running mode so this identification is automatically launched when expanding the Data Sources branch in the Schematic Dataset Editor tree (Tree view) or clicking the List Data Sources item (Details view).
To enable this running mode, you must click the Preferences drop-down menu on the toolbar and check the Identify unused data sources menu item.
At the end of the identification process, the detected unused data sources are easily identifiable; they display with one of the following pink icons at their left in the Dataset Editor tree: , , , or .
- For some schematic datasets that contain an important number of data sources (such as schematic datasets working with ArcSDE data shared by several users), identifying the used and unused data sources can be very costly in time.
- Checking the Identify unused data sources menu item doesn't only enable this running mode for the current open session but for all the schematic datasets that will be edited within the Schematic Dataset Editor afterwards.
- Due to identification time cost, it is better to disable this running mode before closing Schematic Dataset Editor if you needed to enable it for your currently edited schematic dataset.
