Setting projection, scale, and page size

It is important to set the projection and scale of the panels to update automatically when it comes to creating and adjusting annotation placement and making other cartographic edits. The shapes of features and text placement need to be in the chart's projection and scale to ensure that the desired placement is achieved. There are three locations where the projection and scale information for a chart's panel can be set:

The parameters defined in these three locations should be the same.

Making sure that you have set the correct page size for your chart is also important. Setting the page size will ensure that hard-copy plots are printed to an appropriately sized sheet of paper.

Setting the projection

The steps outlined below will override the current projection of the data frame in the map document in favor of what was defined for the grid of the chart. When the product is checked back in to the product library, product library will check to ensure they match.

步骤:
  1. Open the product map document if necessary.
  2. On the Nautical Cartography toolbar, click Grids > Grid Layout View.

    A warning message appears.

    Grid Layout View message
  3. Click OK on the warning message.

The Grid Layout View tool automatically updates your grids, projection, standard parallel, and meridian and switches to the Layout View. Data frame Clip to Shape is applied after the process so only features that fall within the extent of the neatline will be displayed. If you want to view features outside the extent of the panel after this process, they will not be displayed until Clip to Shape is disabled on the data frame. If you applied a data frame rotation, you will need to reapply that rotation value after clicking the Grid Layout View command.

Setting the scale

The steps outlined below will override the current scale of the data frame in the map document in favor of what was defined for the grid of the chart. When the product is checked back in to the product library, the product library will check to ensure they match.

步骤:
  1. Right-click the data frame name and click Properties.

The Data Frame Properties dialog box appears.

  2. Click the General tab.
  3. Enter the value of the chart's reference scale in the Reference Scale text box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Optionally, if you do not want to set your page size now, go back to Data View and save the product map document.

You will need to set the page size before you print your hard-copy chart.

Setting the page size

The page size has to be modified based on the scale of the chart and its geographic extent. It is important to set this now so that it will not conflict with layout features in future steps.

步骤:
  1. If necessary, switch to Layout View.
  2. On the main menu, click File > Page and Print Setup.
  3. Click the Name drop-down arrow and choose a printer.
  4. In the Paper area, choose the orientation of the chart as either Portrait or Landscape.
  5. Click the Size drop-down arrow in the Paper area and choose the size that fits the chart (for example, ANSI E).

If nothing matches the chart measurements in the Size drop-down list, uncheck the Use Printer Paper Settings check box and type the width and height of the paper into their respective fields.

  6. Click OK to apply your changes and review the results.

You may need to select the data frame and drag it to the center of the page.

You may need to resize the data frame to fit on the page. If you do, be sure to change the map scale back to the reference scale.
