Avoiding slivers in reprojected butt-joined datasets

There are times when the reprojection of footprints results in slivers between the raster dataset when using butt-joined datasets. This can occur when creating an image service definition that uses a different spatial reference system than the input data. In this case, it is recommended that the footprints be recalculated based on their geometry before any derived images are calculated.

The workflow below will help you create service overviews after adding an input dataset to an existing image service and recomputing the footprints.

Adding data to an existing image service definition

手順:
  1. Add your raster data to an existing image service definition that has a different spatial reference system.

To learn about adding raster data, see Adding raster data in an image service definition.

Recomputing footprints by geometry

手順:
  1. Right-click the footprint in the table of contents, point to Recompute Footprint, then click By Geometry.
  2. Modify the parameters appropriately.

To learn about recomputing the footprints by geometry, see Recomputing footprints based on geometry.

Creating service overviews

手順:
  1. Click the Image Service drop-down menu on the Image Service Definition Editor toolbar, point to Advanced, point to Optimize Service, point to Overviews, then click Define.
  2. Click the Format drop-down arrow and choose JPEG 2000 or TIFF according to the original format with the required compression method and quality settings.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click OK on the message box letting you know the service overviews have been defined.
  5. Click the Image Service drop-down menu on the Image Service Definition Editor toolbar, point to Advanced, then click Build.
  6. Build the image service definition, making sure to check Generate derived images.

By default, Compile service will be checked. Checking Generate derived images creates the service overviews you've defined.

  7. Click OK.

The image service is first compiled, then the service overviews are generated. Once this is complete, you can preview and publish the image service.
