ArcGIS.com web maps support ratings and comments. These enable users of a web map to provide qualitative information about the map. This information can then be referred to by other ArcGIS.com users to determine whether to use the map, or it can be used by the map's author to improve the map.
To rate or add a comment to a web map you need to open and sign into the Map Center. For instructions, see Signing in to ArcGIS.com.
Once you have opened an ArcGIS.com web map (see Opening a map), follow the instructions for rating and commenting in the sections below.
Rating a map
In ArcGIS.com, a map's rating is intended to provide concise, community-driven information about a map's quality. To ensure that maps are rated by users of a web map, a web map cannot be rated by the author. Maps are rated on a scale of one star to five stars, where five stars is the best rating.
-
On the Properties tab, click Rate:
-
The Rating dialog opens, displaying the current average rating:
-
Click on a star to set the rating:
-
The Rate button becomes enabled. Click it to apply the rating to the map:
Commenting on a map
Through the Map Center, you can also add comments to web maps that you have open. Comments allow you to provide feedback to the map's author as well as share information about the map with other ArcGIS.com users. Comments can be added to a map as often as you wish. Unlike a rating, comments can be added by the owner of the map. This is useful, for instance, to respond to a comment made by another user.
-
In the Map Center, select the Info tab:
-
Select the Comments tab to open the comments text area. Type your comment and click the Commit button:
-
The comment with your user name and the timestamp will appear on the Comments tab above previous comments:
NOTE |
You have the ability to edit or remove any comment you have made, but you cannot alter or remove those comments made by others. |
