Overview map widget

This page describes an older version, please read about the latest version at:
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/concepts/

The Overview Map widget adds an overview map to the Viewer application UI. It shows the current spatial extent of the map display as a red rectangle (i.e., extent rectangle) relative to the entire spatial extent of the base map service. This widget is located in the lower right corner of the Viewer UI and is minimized by default, appearing to be hidden. It can be easily maximized by clicking on the expand arrow. Clicking on the minimize arrow will hide the widget.

End users can also navigate the Viewer, by moving the extent rectangle shown on the overview map.

Since the overview map is intended to be part of the Viewer UI, its <widget> tag would be referenced as an independent widget in the Viewer application configuration file, and not within a widget container.

Conceptual Workflow

Requires: optional basemap layer, otherwise it defaults to the active basemap

Test drive the Overview Map widget or see its tag reference.
