Bookmark widget

This page describes an older version, please read about the latest version at:
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/concepts/

The Bookmark widget stores a collection of map view extents (i.e., spatial bookmarks) of the data contents displayed in the Viewer application. It also enables end users to create and add their own spatial bookmarks. By default, it includes 7 predefined spatial bookmarks that are associated with some sample data already configured in the Viewer (default configuration).

The Bookmarks button displays the list of spatial bookmarks. The list can be customized by editing the Bookmark widget configuration file, for example, individual bookmarks can be added, removed, and reordered.

Clicking the Add Bookmark button enables end users to define and add their own custom spatial bookmark - which is based on the current view extent in the map display. End user created spatial bookmarks are cached locally for a specific computer and user profile.

Spatial bookmarks created by end users will appear at the bottom of the bookmark list. They appear in the bookmark list in the order they are created. End users will not be able to reorder, nor sort the bookmark list. Clicking the red circle with the x symbol for an end user defined bookmark will remove it from the list.

End user created bookmarks are saved by Flash Player and not the Viewer application. The location varies based on OS. These are sometimes referred to as Adobe Flash cookies, but they are technically called Local Shared Objects.

Test drive the Bookmark widget or read its tag reference.
