Exercise 5: Viewing Data Using Tracking Viewer

In this exercise, you will use Tracking Viewer to view the taxi service that is being distributed by Tracking Server. Tracking Viewer is a lightweight web-based client application provided with Tracking Server.

Starting the Flex Policy Server

Before you can run Tracking Viewer, you must start the Flex Policy Server. This can be done using the Tracking Server Controller.

Steps:

1. Add the Tracking Server Controller icon to the Windows tray (if you haven't already done so) by going to Start > Programs > ArcGIS Tracking Server > Tracking Server Controller.
2. Right-Click on the Tracking Server Controller icon in the Windows system tray to display the list of Windows services provided by Tracking Server.
3. Hover the pointer over the Flex Policy Server service to display the options for starting and stopping the service.
4. Select Start.

   The Flex Policy Server is now running.

Using Tracking Viewer to View Taxi Data

Depending on how your administrator installed Tracking Server, Tracking Viewer may or may not be deployed to a web server. Talk to your Tracking Server administrator to determine your preferred method for running Tracking Viewer.

Steps:

1. Follow the instructions in Viewing Data Using Tracking Viewer to connect to the Taxis service being distributed by Tracking Server.

   This is a general procedure that covers how to run Tracking Viewer, regardless of whether it is deployed to a web server or not. Ask your Tracking Server administrator which method of running Tracking Viewer is preferred.

2. After connecting to the Taxis service, your Tracking Viewer should look similar to this.

   Of course, depending on the options you have selected and how you choose to symbolize your Taxis layer, your Tracking Viewer will look different.
