Setting Error Logging Options

The Error Logging tab in Tracking Server Manager allows you to set options for how many and what type of errors to log from the real-time message server.

If you’re having trouble making connections in the real-time message server, the error log can help you troubleshoot the problem. For instance, you can increase the error logging level to Full to view informational messages coming from the real-time message server. This setting can maximize the amount of information available to you while troubleshooting.

Steps:
  1. From the Start menu, start Tracking Server Manager.
  2. Click the Error Logging tab.
  3. Click the error logging level you want to maintain.

The default error logging level is Basic. Higher levels take up system memory and are recommended only for troubleshooting purposes.

  4. In the Maximum log file size field, type the number of kilobytes you want to set as the maximum file size for a single log file.
  5. In the Maximum number of log files to maintain field, type a number from 1 to 5.

When the maximum number of log files has been used, error logging will recycle and begin overwriting the first log file.

  6. In the Log File field, type the path where you want your error logs to reside.

You can also click Browse to navigate to the desired folder.

  7. Click Save Properties.
  8. Click File > Stop Server, then click File > Start Server.

For your changes on the Error Logging tab to take effect, you must stop and restart Tracking Server.
