Restricting client access to an image service

LegacyLegacy:

ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model—the mosaic dataset—which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension.

After enabling authentication, you can restrict access to an image service by modifying the Windows security settings of the file created corresponding to that service. If you want to restrict service access to a particular user, you need to change the security settings of the file.

Steps:
  1. Select the file at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESRI\Image Server\Services in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP and the file at C:\ProgramData\ESRI\Image Server\Services in Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista and Windows 7 that corresponds to the service for which you want to restrict access.
  2. Right-click the file and click Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click the Add button to add a user for whom you want to allow or deny certain permissions on the image service.

If you deny access to an image service, the particular image service will not be listed on the Available Image Services dialog box when accessing the image service using a client application.
