Saving an image service as a reference file

The ArcGIS Image Server client application allows you to save an image service as an image service reference file (.ISRef). This .ISRef file can be used to define a service connection and set service properties of the image service. You can use this .ISRef file in most client applications to reestablish the image service in its current state when you are saving or it is already saved.

In ArcMap and ArcGlobe, you can save the image service as a layer file, which can be used as any other layer file in ArcGIS.

You can view an image service in ArcCatalog once an .ISRef or .lyr file has been saved for the image service. By saving these files, you can view them in the Catalog tree as well as on the Preview tab.

Steps:
  1. Right-click an image service layer in the ArcMap table of contents and click Save As ISRef File.
  2. Browse to a location and type a name with which to save the file.
  3. Click Save.
