Set a scale range for a layer

You can configure a layer so that the features only appear within a particular scale range. This is useful because features often only make sense at a particular geographic scale. For example, the location of a bus stop is unlikely to be relevant beyond the scale of a city so it may be appropriate to make them invisible when the user zooms out beyond this level.

You can configure the scale range for a feature layer in the Layer Details view of the Layers panel.

To set the scale range for the features in a layer

  1. In the Layers panel, click the arrow next to the layer for which you want to set the scale range. The Layer Details view of the panel appears.
  2. In the Layer Details view, under Scale Range, click Configure.

  3. In the Scale Range view, set the minimum and maximum scales to determine when the features should be visible by either choosing the values from the drop down scale lists or by selecting the current map scale by clicking Use Current Scale .

    NoteNote:

    If you want to remove the scale range for a layer then select None in both the drop down lists.

  4. Click Done to return to the Layer Details view.
