Rename, reorder, or remove a layer

All the different layers that you add to a map can be renamed or removed. You can also change the order of the items in a map, controlling the drawing order of the items.

You cannot rename, remove, or change the position of the basemap, although you can change to a different basemap.

To make changes to layers

You can rename, remove, and change the order of layers by using the Layers panel organizing mode. Show the Layers panel by clicking the Layers tab in the left side panel and clicking Organize at the bottom right of the Layers panel.

To rename a layer

Change the name of a layer by clicking the text box and typing the text as required. This only changes the displayed name of the layer and does not affect the data source that the layer is connected to.

To change the order of the items in the map

Click the handle at the right of a layer name and drag it up or down within the list to change the order in which it appears in the map and legend.

To remove a layer

Click the Remove button to the left of a layer to remove it from the map.

If you make a mistake, you can undo any of these changes by clicking the Undo button Undo button at the top left of the screen.

When you are finished making changes, click the Done button at the bottom right of the panel to switch back to normal map layers mode.

You can also change the appearance of layers in the map, changing the opacity; visibility; and in some cases, the symbols used to draw the items in the layer.
