Save a copy of a map using a different title

You cannot save changes to a map that you do not own. However, you can open a map that belongs to another user, add content or make other changes, then save your own copy of the map with these changes. You can make copies of maps that you already own by saving them with a different title.

To save a copy of a map

  1. First, ensure you have opened the map you want to save a copy of.
  2. Click the arrow on the Save split button at the left of the toolbar and click Save As.

If you are not signed in, the Sign In dialog box appears; enter your ArcGIS Online user name and password to sign in.

  3. In the Save Map dialog box that appears, enter a title and summary. Enter a comma-separated list of tags that describe the map, or choose one or more existing tags by clicking the arrow next to Choose from your tags. Select a folder from the Save in Folder list to specify which folder the map will be saved in. A thumbnail of the map is automatically generated for you; however, if you have a PNG file available locally that you want to represent the map in the home screen, click Browse to navigate to the file.
  4. Click Save to close the Save Map dialog box and save the map.

The map is added to your ArcGIS Online account and you can view it in My Content.

NoteNote:

Map titles must be unique. If you attempt to save a map using the same title as a map that you already own, a warning message is displayed and the Save Map dialog box remains open so that you can change the title.
