About feature templates

Feature templates describe the symbol or appearance of a feature, as well as the default attribute values for newly created features. Each editable layer has a layer template, which is a collection of feature templates that you can use to create new features in that layer.

The set of feature templates available for a Map Notes feature layer

The feature templates for all the editable layers in the map are listed in the Add Features panel, organized by layer. You can access them by clicking the Add Features tab in the left side panel to show the Add Features panel.

You can search for a feature template in all of the layer templates in the map by typing what you are searching for in the Search for feature types box at the top of the panel.

NoteNote:

Only the templates for layers that are editable and visible are listed. If the feature templates for an editable layer in the map are not listed, check that the layer is visible by clicking the Layers tab to show the Layers panel and ensuring the check box next to the layer in the list is checked. If templates are still not listed, then that layer is not editable.

You can rename, delete, and create new feature templates for editable layers that are stored in the map. The feature templates for a feature layer based on a feature service cannot be changed, and are shown as read-only in the gallery of templates.
