Installation overview

The ArcGIS Desktop installation requires the user to be a system administrator or have elevated privileges in a deployment environment.

The installation procedure includes the following steps:

1. Run the ArcGIS Desktop setup program.

The ArcGIS Desktop installation media includes an autorun feature that automatically displays the startup dialog box when the media is inserted in the drive. To install ArcGIS Desktop on your computer, click the ArcGIS Desktop setup link on the startup dialog box to launch the ArcGIS Desktop setup program. If preferred, the ArcGIS Desktop setup program, setup.exe located in the Desktop folder, can be used directly instead of using the startup dialog box. For more information on installing ArcGIS Desktop, see Installing ArcGIS Desktop on your computer.

2. Complete the steps in the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard.

After installation is complete, the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard is launched. Select your product seat. If you will be using a Concurrent Use product, you will need to define your license manager. If you will be using a Single Use product, you will need to authorize your software for use.

For more information on the ArcGIS 10 License Manager, see The License Manager.

For more information on the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard and authorizing your software for use, see The ArcGIS Administrator.

Your ArcGIS software is now available for use.
