Updating vector records

You may want to directly edit the primitive attributes of a selected feature in an S-57 production database. To do so, you must select a single S-57 feature in the data view so that the S-57 Spatial Coder tool can expose the attributes of associated primitive records. The Update tab on the Manage Features window allows you to modify a feature's positional accuracy (POSACC) and quality of position (QUAPOS) attributes on a selected primitive record but not the fields stored within the Feature to Spatial Pointer table. The S-57 Spatial Coder gives you the ability to modify not only the POSACC and QUAPOS attributes but also the MASK attribute in the Feature to Spatial Pointer table.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Nautical S-57.
  4. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.
    NoteNote:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    TipTip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  5. Click the Update tab on the Manage Features window.
  6. Select only one feature on the Update tab.
    NoteNote:

SoundgP features are not supported by the S-57 Spatial Coder tool. You can access the necessary spatial attribute information directly on the sounding feature.

  7. Click the S-57 Spatial Coder button S-57 Spatial Coder on the Nautical S-57 toolbar.

    Spatial Coder dialog box

The related spatial primitives are listed in the Vector Records list. If multiple vector records exist, they are listed in topological order.

  8. Click one of the listed vector records to view its Feature to Spatial Pointer Fields and Spatial Attributes.
    TipTip:

Click a vector record to see it flash on the map.

    TipTip:

Double-click a vector record to zoom to the feature.

  9. Choose the vector record that you want to update from the Vector Records list.
    TipTip:

You can select more than one vector record by pressing the CTRL or SHIFT key when you choose records.

    TipTip:

You can also edit a feature's spatial attribute by selecting the feature or the related geometric primitive and editing its attributes using the Update Attributes window.

  10. Click the field value that you want to update.
  11. Apply your changes if you want to update another vector record and repeat steps 9–10.
  12. Click OK when you have finished updating all your vector records for the selected feature.
