Validating SAC shapefiles

This topic applies to ArcInfo only.

The Validate Shapefile utility identifies geometry problems with 3D shapefiles. If any problems are identified, they must be corrected using either ArcMap or the system used to collect the Stereo Airfield Collection (SAC) data before attempting to import the shapefiles into the geodatabase. If these errors are not corrected, they may result in incorrect feature representation.

NoteNote:

3D shapefiles output by SOCET SET version 5.1 and earlier may not adhere to the published shapefile specification and may need to be corrected.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcCatalog.
  2. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Defense Mapping.
  3. Navigate to the directory that contains the shapefiles in the Catalog tree window.
  4. On the Defense Mapping toolbar, click Defense Mapping > Stereo Airfield Tools > Validate SAC Shapefiles.
  5. When the process completes, double-click the ShapefileValidation.txt file that appears in the top-level directory to view the results.

The text file will be in the same directory that contains the SAC shapefiles.

NoteNote:

You can correct errors found during the validation process using the Select Bad Geometry and Simplify commands.
