Applying transparency to polygon layers

The Apply Transparency to Polygon Layers tool applies a specified transparency to all polygon layers. This allows you to view underlying imagery through the polygon layers without having to adjust transparency for each polygon layer.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, load data in the map.
  3. If necessary, add the Apply Transparency to Polygon Layers tool by doing the following:
    1. On the main menu, click Customize > Customize Mode.

      The Customize dialog box appears.

    2. Click the Commands tab.
    3. In the Categories list, click Production Mapping.
    4. Click and drag the Apply Transparency to Polygon Layers button Set Polygon Transparency Percentage to a toolbar.
    5. Click Close.
  4. Click the Apply Transparency to Polygon Layers button Set Polygon Transparency Percentage.

  5. Type the transparency that you want to apply to the layers in the Percent (%) text box.
  6. Click OK.

    The Transparency dialog box closes.

All polygon feature layers are redrawn with the transparency percentage that you specified in step 5.
