Description

You might see this error message when attempting to connect to ArcSDE or ArcGIS Server:

• ArcSDE: Your ArcSDE connection information is incorrect, or the server is unavailable.
• ArcGIS Server: You must be running the application as a member of the server's ArcGIS Server users group (agsusers) to make a user connection.

Solution

• ArcSDE: Check your connection information for correctness and, if correct, contact the ArcSDE administrator for the status of the server.
• ArcGIS Server: To use the server, a member of the ArcGIS Server administrators group (agsadmin) must add you to the agsusers group.
