Downloading selected raster datasets

You can download selected raster datasets from an image service to your local disk. This is considered a pick-and-ship capability. This operation downloads the raw raster datasets and their associated files.

You can choose the desired raster dataset by using the attribute table or one of the selection tools.

This capability can be turned off by the Server Administrator.

Optionally, you can save the image, or a part of it, that appears in the display, by using the Export Data option.

Steps:
  1. Make a selection. This can be done using several methods, such as the following:
    • Opening the attribute table and selecting one or more rows
    • Using Select by Attribute or Select by Location from the Selection menu
    • Using the Select Features tool Select Features on the Tools toolbar
  2. Optionally, right-click the image service layer, point to Selection, then click Reselect Only Primary Rasters.

This will remove any overviews from the selection set.

  3. Optionally, use a tool on the Draw toolbar, such as the Polygon tool Polygon, to define the extent of the raster data you want to download.
  4. Right-click the image service layer in the table of contents, point to Data, then click Download Selected Rasters.

This opens the Download Selected Rasters dialog box.

  5. Type a path or click the browse button Browse to specify a location on disk where the raster datasets will be downloaded.
  6. Check or uncheck items in the Downloaded files list.

If unchecked, a raster dataset will not be downloaded.

  7. Optionally, you can choose to add the downloaded data to your map document.
  8. Optionally, you can choose to clip the source rasters to the extent or to a graphic.
    1. Click the Settings button to modify the format of the clipped raster datasets.
    NoteNote:

Format conversion only works with the clipped rasters. If the source raster is completely contained by the clip extent, there is no clipping happening and the source raster formats will be used. If a raster cannot be clipped (converted) into a given format because of a mismatch in pixel type, number of bands, or other reason, the raster will be clipped to a TIFF file. A geodatabase raster will be downloaded to TIFF.

  9. Optionally, you can choose to see the path name of the source files in the window.
    1. Click the Settings button.
    2. Check Display full file paths and click OK.
  10. Optionally, you can choose to use the same source folder structure when you download the files.
    1. Click the Settings button.
    2. Check Maintain folder structure and click OK.
  11. Click Download.

As each raster dataset is downloading, the status will change from Pending to Downloading to Done.

  12. When downloading is complete, optionally, click Add to Map to add the downloaded rasters to ArcMap.
  13. Click Close to close the dialog box.
NoteNote:

Source files stored using the GRID raster format cannot be downloaded.
