Making a layer transparent

Before you can apply layer transparency in ArcGlobe or ArcScene using the interactive slider, make sure the 3D Effects toolbar is displayed. If necessary, click the Customize menu, point to Toolbars, then click the toolbar name to have it added.

Steps:
  1. On the 3D Effects toolbar, click the Layer drop-down arrow and choose the layer you want to adjust transparency for.
  2. Click the Layer Transparency Layer Transparency button and move the slider to a value.

The transparency effect occurs while you move the slider. When you release the mouse button, the tool disappears, and the transparency effect stays at the value you left it at.

TipTip:
  • You can also review and set this property in the Display tab of the Layer Properties dialog box for a layer.
  • When you specify layer transparency for a group layer the effects properties are stored in the group layer and override the existing effects properties set for the individual layers that are in the group. See Using the 3D Effect toolbar in ArcGlobe and Using the 3D Effects toolbar in ArcScene for more information on effects for group layers.
