Editing the paths to source data in an image service definition

LegacyLegacy:

ArcGIS 10 is the last release of the stand-alone ArcGIS Image Server product. The image service definition (.ISDef) has been replaced by an improved geodatabase data model—the mosaic dataset—which can be published as an image service using the ArcGIS Server Image extension.

There may be occasions when you need to modify paths to the source data of raster datasets, for example, if you've moved these raster datasets to a different location. You may also want to add the .RPDef files to another image service definition. You can save time by adding the .RPDef files to an image service rather than adding the original raster dataset because the raster dataset does not have to be queried, and an .RPDef file does not have to be written.

The Edit Raster Properties Wizard provides you with the Paths to raster source data option, which enables you to change the complete source of the raster data defined by the raster. Choose this option to define a new path or change an exiting path to the data in your image service.

With the Edit Raster Properties Wizard, you can make multiple types of edits at a time to the following:

The following procedure will guide you in changing the paths to the raster source data.

Steps:
  1. Click the Image Service drop-down menu on the Image Service Definition Editor toolbar and click Advanced > Edit Raster Properties.

The Edit Raster Properties Wizard is displayed with a Welcome to the Edit Raster Properties Wizard message in the wizard panel.

  2. Click the Next button.

The Select what you want to edit wizard panel is displayed.

  3. Select Paths to raster source data.
  4. Click the Next button.

The Define or edit the paths to the raster source data wizard panel is displayed.

  5. Check the Display raster source paths check box.

This will search the current raster source paths and display the paths in the Current raster source path column in the table. Not all .RPDef files will be searched to conserve time.

  6. Type the new raster source path in the text box next to the current raster source path that you want to edit.
  7. Optionally, right-click the Current raster source path column heading and click Add Path to add a row, then enter your own path to replace.
  8. Click the Next button.

The Do you want to perform additional editing wizard panel is displayed.

  9. Select Yes or No.
    • Select No if you do not want to edit any other raster process definition files.
    • Select Yes if you want to perform additional editing to the raster process definition files and click the Next button. It takes you again to the Select what you want to edit wizard panel. To do more edits, repeat the steps given above.
  10. Optionally, you can select the Use only the selected raster datasets in the service table option or the Use all the raster datasets in the service table option.
  11. Click the Next button, and you can see the summary of the modifications in the Your raster process definition files are ready to be processed wizard panel.
  12. Click the Finish button to complete the editing process.

The Edit Raster Properties reporter window is displayed with the series of actions that is being applied on the current image service.

  13. Click the Close button to dismiss the reporter and load the image service definition.
