Configuring a DAO Odbc Direct Connection data source

Prerequisite:

A Data Access Objects Open Database Connectivity (DAO Odbc) Direct connection provides access to any ODBC data source.

Schematic Dataset Editor allows you to create a data source to connect to the database you want to work with using a DAO Odbc Direct connection. To create the data source, you must start with the steps detailed in Creating a schematic data source topic and select DAO Odbc Direct Connection when specifying the data source Type at step 6. The steps below concern the specific DAO Odbc Direct connection data source configurations that are expected to be operated at step 7 in this topic.

When selecting DAO Odbc Direct Connection as the Type for a new schematic data source, the Properties tab displays as follows:

Steps:
  1. Type the name of the ODBC data source in the Data Source Name field.

This data source name corresponds to the User Data Source (UDS) name you should have previously specified using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator utility.

  2. Click the Open Connection button Open Connection button at the left top corner of the Properties tab.

Schematic Dataset Editor tries to open the data source. When it opens correctly, the OK button is enabled.

To put an end point to any DAO Odbc Direct Connection data source creation, you then need to execute steps 8 and 9 in the Creating a schematic data source topic.
